Heavily Criticized International Criminal Court Convicts War Criminal from Central African Republic
The International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague convicted former Seleka commander Mahamat Said Abdel Kani (56) on Wednesday for four counts of crimes against humanity committed during the 2013 civil war in the Central African Republic. Said was found guilty of torture and other abuses while leading the Office Central de Répression du Banditisme in Bangui. This conviction comes as ICC faces intense criticism, including calls for boycott from US President Donald Trump. Said is the first Seleka representative to stand trial; he denied all charges, and sentencing will be determined at a future hearing.
