Two UN Peacekeepers Killed on Patrol in South Sudan
On 2026-08-24, two United Nations peacekeepers were killed in an ambush while patrolling Jonglei state in eastern South Sudan. Seven others were injured, including three peacekeepers, two police officers, and two officials. All peacekeepers were Ethiopian, according to the UN mission UNMISS. Since the start of the year, nine peacekeepers have been killed by militias. No group has claimed responsibility. UN Secretary-General Guterres strongly condemned the attack and called for a prompt investigation to prosecute those responsible.
