Council Members Angry at Mayor Who No Longer Wants to Visit Couples Married for 60 Years
Goeree-Overflakkee Mayor Ada Grootenboer-Dubbelman announced in December 2025 that she would stop visiting residents celebrating 60 years of marriage due to a full agenda, proposing that council members take over the duty. Council members, including SGP’s Erwin Guijt and ChristenUnie’s Mariëlle van den Berg, strongly criticized the plan, arguing that mayoral visits should remain with the executive board and fearing political bias.
