Sarcophagus for Harald References His Love of Sailing and Viking Burials
The Norwegian royal house revealed details about King Harald's olive-green, ship-shaped sarcophagus, symbolizing his sailing passion and Viking burial traditions. Made from olivine mined in Sunnmøre, a region favored by Queen Sonja, the stone also absorbs CO2 to represent the couple's love for nature. The design includes regalia imagery and will eventually hold both monarchs. Placed in Akershus Castle outside Oslo, the project cost 1.85 million euros.
