Court Orders NS to Allow 'Controversial' Wakker Dier Ads
The Utrecht court has ruled that Dutch railway operator NS must allow the animal rights group Wakker Dier to display posters at its stations, rejecting NS's claim that the campaign was too controversial. NS is ordered to withdraw its refusal within 24 hours and display the ads during the week of September 28 to October 4. If NS fails to comply, it faces a daily fine of 25,000 euros, capped at 100,000 euros. The court will provide its reasoning by October 7. Wakker Dier argued that the ad, which asks people not to eat meat on Animal Day, does not depict slaughterhouses or industrial farming, whereas NS had refused based on public debate concerns.
