Past Bullies Face University Bans in South Korea
South Korean universities are increasingly rejecting applicants with records of school violence, a measure aimed at curbing a persistent bullying epidemic. In 2025, 147 universities considered these records for admissions, with public institutions now mandated to do so. Kyungpook National University rejected 28 students this year due to severe disciplinary records, while applying point deductions for lesser offenses. Vice Dean Yoon Minyoung states the policy enforces accountability, and student ambassador Park Kyumin believes it will deter bullying by linking behavior directly to educational opportunities.
