Malfunction at Coastguard Emergency Channel, Still Reachable by Phone
On 2026-09-12, the Dutch Coastguard experienced a malfunction in its radio systems, preventing the sending or receiving of (emergency) messages and navigation reports. However, the coastguard remains reachable by phone. Ship traffic centers are informed and can still receive reports. Volunteers from the Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution (KNRM) can relay radio messages to the coastguard and monitor ships, according to a spokesperson. The cause of the outage is unclear and its duration is unknown. Defense Ministry technicians are working on a solution.
