Banking Ethics Board Halts Operations Due to Dispute with Banks
The Stichting Tuchtrecht Banken (STB) announced it is ceasing operations because banks fail to cooperate adequately with the banking ethics board, a legal requirement established after the 2015 financial crisis. The STB claims that banks frustrate improvements in integrity oversight by rarely submitting cases and only reporting individual misconduct where dismissal or prosecution has already occurred. Consequently, the STB has ended its collaboration with the Dutch Association of Banks (NVB), which acknowledges organizational issues but advocates for a revised system focusing solely on individual employee fault rather than broader sectoral policies.
