British Chess Prodigy Becomes Youngest Female Grandmaster
Eleven-year-old Bodhana Sivanandan became the youngest player ever to achieve the Woman Grandmaster (WGM) title at the 46th Chess Olympiad in Uzbekistan. Born in Harrow to Indian heritage, she surpassed Kateryna Lagno’s previous record set at age 12. Sivanandan, who learned chess during the lockdown and represents England internationally, aims to become a General Grandmaster next. She continues her full-time education alongside her rapid rise in the chess world, having won all 24 games at the European School Championship at age seven.
