New Law Enables Water Cremation and Joint Burials in One Coffin
The Dutch government has submitted a bill to modernize burial laws, allowing water cremation (resomeration) and joint burials or cremations in a single coffin. Minister Heerma sent the proposal to the Council of State on Friday, aiming to replace the current Body Disposition Act with greater flexibility for body disposition. The new regulations also simplify procedures for burial within 24 hours, enhance protection of bodily integrity, and improve forensic investigation capabilities regarding causes of death.
