A quarter of Utrecht aldermen live outside their municipality: 'I think it is a bad thing'
A survey by RTV Utrecht reveals that 24 of 94 aldermen in the province of Utrecht do not reside in the municipality they govern, despite legal requirements mandating local residence. While some officials argue that external networks benefit regional issues, critics and residents contend that living elsewhere hinders understanding of local concerns. In several municipalities, including Houten, Baarn, and Bunnik, out-of-town aldermen form a majority.
