Porter’s Lodge on Katendrecht Shines After Months-Long Renovation
The historic Porter’s Lodge on Katendrecht in Rotterdam has reopened as an information point and to-go shop following a renovation by the Stichting Volkskracht Historische Monumenten since 2020. Opened on September 12 by alderman Joan Nunnely, the building now serves as a hub for cultural events in Rotterdam Zuid, offering coffee, tickets, and souvenirs. Theater director Rachèl van Olm highlights the lodge’s role in promoting local culture, including the Feyenoord Museum and other venues. Originally used from 1950 to control access to the Fenix warehouses, the site is being revitalized to showcase the area’s heritage, which once produced snacks like Mars and Bounty. Van Olm hopes the renovated space will encourage more visitors to explore the cultural offerings of Rotterdam Zuid.
