This one courtyard saved the entire Jordaan from demolition
Municipal authorities and planners originally intended to demolish three-quarters of the Jordaan district for infrastructure projects. A private initiative to purchase and restore the Anslo’s hofje between Tuinstraat and Egelantiersstraat halted these plans, preserving the historic neighborhood from destruction.
