Melissa Barrera wants to return to Scream only without Spyglass
Melissa Barrera stated she will not return to the Scream film franchise while rights remain with Spyglass Media Group. The actress explained in a JustWatch podcast that she still loves the series but holds a grudge against Spyglass for labeling her antisemitic after she expressed support for Palestine in 2023. Although Barrera apologized, she noted that Spyglass never offered an apology despite evidence supporting her stance. Consequently, even if apologies were made, she would not work for them again. Barrera played Sam Carpenter in the fifth and sixth films before being replaced; Jenna Ortega and director Christopher Landon also left the project during the controversy surrounding Scream 7.
