Community Service Sentenced to Men Who Assaulted Woman Amid Unrest at Engelen Asylum Shelter
A police court in Den Bosch sentenced two men, 41-year-old Jeremy van L. and 43-year-old Freek Q., for assaulting a woman on June 14 near an asylum shelter in Engelen. Van L. received 36 days in prison, 120 hours of community service, and a two-month suspended sentence after kicking the victim, while Q. was ordered to perform 240 hours of community service after spraying her with a paint-like substance. The defendants claimed the woman had sabotaged protests against the new facility by damaging flags and signs. Although the Public Prosecution Service described the violence as excessive, the imposed penalties were lower than requested. Both men expressed regret, but the victim did not file a complaint and wishes no further involvement in the case.
