Amsterdam police deploy drones for traffic checks: ‘We can reach locations needing oversight much faster’
The Amsterdam Police are deploying drones to conduct targeted traffic checks, aiming to improve road safety by capturing evidence of violations such as driving under red X’s or reversing on highways. Operational infrastructure specialist Tine Polmans stated that the drone trial was successful and will be rolled out nationally, with approval from the public prosecution service. Pilots Giovanni and Maurice noted that flying at higher altitudes prevents drivers from noticing the drones, thereby avoiding dangerous maneuvers. The police emphasize that the goal is enhancing safety rather than issuing fines, despite accusations of surveillance.
