No Decision Yet on the Future of Capital Gains Tax Box 3
The Dutch cabinet has not succeeded in reaching a political decision regarding the future of the capital gains tax (Box 3). The debate on this issue stalled just before the summer in the Senate (Eerste Kamer). As of 2026-09-11, discussions remain unresolved, and no agreement has been made on how to proceed with Box 3 taxation. The lack of consensus highlights ongoing political challenges, and the government has yet to present a clear plan for the future of this tax system.
